Our markets

As a specialist mortgage bank, Charter Court Financial Services focuses firmly on the significant niche markets that are underserved by High Street banks. We offer specialist mortgages, bridging and second charge loans, and savings products.

Buy to let mortgage lending

We provide buy to let (‘BTL’) mortgages secured on residential property held for investment purposes by landlords with either a clear credit history, minor historical adverse credit on record, or specialist borrowing needs.

The BTL market has seen strong growth since 2008 driven by growing demand in the UK’s private rental sector. Despite recent regulatory changes, the long term fundamentals of this market remain strong. Continued house price appreciation, driven by chronic undersupply, puts ownership out of reach for many people, ensuring strong rental demand. Persistent low interest rates and a lack of alternative investment opportunities are also supportive of investors’ appetite for BTL investments.

Residential mortgage lending

Our residential mortgages are designed for customers with a clear credit history who have some situational complexity, and those with historical minor adverse credit on record who often fall outside the automated lending criteria of some of the High Street banks.

With house price appreciation driven by housing undersupply, and the enduring demand for home ownership, the outlook for this market is positive. Government policy continues to favour home ownership. Demand from consumers with specialist requirements, such as first time buyers and those in self-employment in particular, is expected to show significant growth going forward.

Bridging and second charge lending

Charter Court provides mortgages to individuals seeking to raise additional funds secured by a second charge against their property, and bridging loans to those who are looking for a short term borrowing solution.

Bridging loans and second charge lending provide a complementary product range to the existing long-term secured lending offerings of Charter Court. These markets, which are smaller and more specialised than BTL and residential, have enjoyed exceptional growth driven by sound fundamentals.

Savings

Moves away from the traditional branch-based banking model have led to a more fragmented savings market in the UK. In this environment, Charter Court’s digital retail savings bank has gathered significant market share by providing straightforward and easy to access savings products at competitive, sustainable rates.

Charter Court’s savings portfolio includes fixed rate deposits for terms of up to five years, notice accounts and easy to access savings accounts. As an online-only bank, Charter Court places great value on providing its customers with personal, reliable service through its UK-based call centre.
